Women’s Basketball: Indians Defeat Raiders

The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to McCook Community College, 78-49, at the Raider Fieldhouse on Monday night.

The match began even as the teams were tied at the end of the first quarter, 15-15. The Indians took command in the second quarter by outscoring the Raiders, 19-5, for a 34-20 halftime lead. In the third quarter, CCC pulled to within nine points before MCC went on a 19-9 run for a 55-36 advantage at the 2:50 mark. In the final quarter, the Raiders were held to nine points as the Indians left town with the 29-point win.

"We turned the ball over too much against their pressure and that led to some easy baskets for them in transition," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "We shot 27 percent and that's hard to stay with a team like that that's pretty good on offense."

Amy Mitchell led CCC in scoring with 13 points while Nikie Nelson (pictured) scored a dozen points.

The loss snapped Raiders' two-game win streak and gives them a record of 14-13.

Up next, CCC welcomes Southeast Community College to the Raider Fieldhouse on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest. Admission to the game is free as part of CCC's Alumni Weekend festivities.
