Brittney Veik missed a potential game-winning three-point bucket at the buzzer and Concordia University JV escaped with a 75-74 win over CCC on Tuesday night at the Raider Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs set the tone early with a 17-5 run over the first five and half minutes and led 27-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders outscored Concordia in the second quarter, 21-16, and trailed 43-36 at halftime. Central kept eating away at the lead in the third quarter and trailed 62-58 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, the Raiders finally took their first lead of the game with less than a minute to play by outscoring the Bulldogs, 16-10. Madisen Jelinek put CCC up 74-73 with 30 seconds left before Concordia's Abbi Krieser's jump shot with 14.2 seconds to play put the Bulldogs up, 75-74. Veik had a wide-open look at the basket on her three-point attempt, but the shot was no good.
"I was really proud of our team," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "We started off slow but fought until the end. Concordia is always tough team to play."
Jelinek posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Veik finished with 17 points while Nyamiri Blair scored 11 points.
With the loss, CCC is 6-9 on the season having lost four in a row.
Up next, the Raiders will take on Midland University JV on Monday in Fremont. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
