Women’s Basketball: CCC Wins Fifth Straight
The Central Community College women's basketball team made it five wins in a row with a 66-59 win at Hesston College on Saturday.
The contest was close throughout the first half as the Larks held a three-point lead at halftime, 29-26. The game was tied at 44 apiece with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter when the Raiders rattled off six straight points to take a 50-44 lead at the 9:41 mark of the fourth quarter. CCC was able to hold on and took the 66-59 victory.
Amy Mitchell scored 14 points off the bench to lead all CCC scorers. In fact, CCC reserves bested Hesston reserves, 31-6. Madisen Jelinek scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds. The Raiders also scored 24 points off 23 Hesston turnovers.
"I am very proud of the fight that our team put against Hesston," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "We grew a lot during this game in overcoming a 10-point deficit. We stuck together in grinding out the win."
The 5-1 Raiders take part in the Emerson Classic hosted by Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday. On Friday at 1 p.m., CCC will take on Iowa Lakes Community College. On Saturday, the Raiders will battle the host Tigers at 3 p.m.
