Women’s Basketball: Sophomore Night Win

The Central Community College women's basketball team defeated Concordia University JV, 57-55, at Raider Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

Prior to tip-off, CCC sophomores Gabby Baack, Monica Brooks Isabel Diaz, Jayden Haag, Sarah Monahan and Jasmine Williams were recognized.

"I'm very proud of this sophomore group," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "These players have developed into fine young women and have done a really good job on the court."

The visiting Bulldogs built a nine-point lead in the first half, then erased by the Raiders for a 23-23 tie at halftime. In the second half, CCC employed a tough defense and hit some key buckets down the stretch to earn its first win of the season over Concordia JV in three tries.

"This victory was a good way to celebrate our sophomore night," said Perkins. "Defensively, we played hard and have evolved into a pretty good defensive team."

Diaz and Brooks recorded double-doubles. Diaz finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Brooks posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The win gives the Raiders a mark of 13-13 to close out the 2019-20 regular season.

Up next, CCC will host the Region IX championship game at Raider Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 29. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

"We're on a mission," said Perkins. "Last year, it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to and so I think our focus for the next 10 days is stay focused on the task at hand of trying to bring a championship to Central Community College."
