Women’s Basketball: NIACC Tournament Recap

The Central Community College women's basketball team split a pair of games at the Thanksgiving Basketball Challenge hosted by North Iowa Area Community College. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders are now 5-6 on the season and will host McCook Community College on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Game 1 vs. Iowa Lakes Community College

The Raiders held off the Lakers, 63-56.

Both teams remained close in the first half with ILCC leading 25-24 at halftime. In the second half, CCC kept the Lakers at bay to claim the seven-point win.

Three CCC players scored in double figures with Isabel Diaz leading the way with 14 points. Jasmine Williams and Monica Brooks each recorded double-doubles. Williams scored 13 points and pulled down a dozen rebounds, while Brooks scored 13 points and hauled in 10 boards.

"The team did a good job staying together," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "We limited their second-chance points and played solid defense. I am very proud of the team for coming back from break ready to go."

Game 2 vs. North Iowa Area Community College

This was the second meeting of the season between the Raiders and the Trojans. Like the first meeting, NIACC was victorious. However, the Raiders held the Trojans to their lowest point total of the season with an 80-60 final score.

CCC was behind 24-11 at the end of the first quarter, before outscoring NIACC 23-17 in the second period to trail 41-34 at the half. The Trojans outscored the Raiders by six and seven points in the third and fourth periods, respectively, to record the win.

Brooks and Diaz led CCC in scoring as each player scored 16 points.

"I am very proud of our effort," said Perkins. "Playing the #3 team in nation we needed to be solid on the defensive end. We did a great job of slowing them down and not backing down."
