The Central Community College Raider Softball team faced off against Ellsworth CC yesterday in a doubleheader, a recap of the games are to follow:
Game 1: Ellsworth 8 CCC 0
This series started with Ellsworth taking an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The runs for Panthers didn't stop there, however, and Ellsworth slowly added runs as the game progressed. CCC's Braelyn Sindelar started in the circle allowing three runs in two and a third innings. She was relieved by Shayla Sullivan, who gave up three hits in three innings. The two Raider team hits were contributed by Delaney Reeg and Hannah Dahlke.
Game 2: CCC 6 Ellsworth 5
Ellsworth got the scoring started, taking a 1-0 lead in the first before CCC's Jordyn Trotta tied it up in the top of the second with a line out. The Panthers put up two in the third and the Raiders answered by taking the lead back in the top of the fifth, 4-3. Ellsworth was able to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, 4-4. A double play in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Panthers to inch ahead with a 5-4 lead going into the final inning. Ava Steinke had a leadoff double to start the inning for the Raiders. Three sacrifice bunts by Reeg, Dahlke, and Jordyn Sheridan and two Ellsworth errors gave the Raiders the 6-5 win.
Winning pitcher Sullivan allowed five hits in seven innings. Kami Kaskie led the Raiders with a pair of hits, while Trotta, Sheridan and Haley Johnson all contributed one hit each.
"We started the day slow offensively, which was a big factor in the outcome of game one," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "But I was proud of them for bouncing back both offensively and defensively and executing throughout game two to get the split."
The Raider softball team is back in action next Tuesday and Wednesday making a trip to North Platte and McCook.
