Softball: Raiders Split the Weekend

The Central Community College Raider Softball team went 2-2 over the weekend. A recap of the matches follows:

 Central Vs Southwestern CC

Game 1:

Offensively, Hannah Dahlke and Braelyn Sindelar each collected two hits while Jordyn Sheridan helped lead the offense with 3 runs batted in. Southwestern Spartans piled up 16 hits in the game between the two CCC pitchers, Sindelar and Shayla Sullivan. Errors also accounted for the struggle the Raiders faced throughout the day.

 Game 2:

Kami Kaskie started in the circle only giving up four earned runs through the three innings pitched. Southwestern stayed hot tallying 11 hits on the day between Kaskie and Sindelar. The Raiders couldn't get the bats going, only generating three hits. Lily Krajewski, Ava Steinke, and Danica Taylor each collected one. Krajewski also added two stolen bases.

 Central vs North Platte CC

Game 1:

Kaskie drove in five runs on two hits to help push the Raiders past NPCC 11-1. Prior to the grand slam from Kaskie in the fourth inning, the Raiders got their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Danica Taylor doubled down the left field line, and Steinke singled to left field, each scoring one run. Offensively the Raiders came out strong generating 12 hits in the five innings. Krajewski and Jordyn Trotta also each collected multiple hits. In the circle, Sullivan allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out one and walking none.

 Game 2:

CCC Raiders rallied to beat NPCC Knights 8-6. In the first inning a solo home by Sindelar put the Raiders on the board. NPCC Knights put the pressure on the defense of the Raiders in the third inning, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-1. Shayla Sullivan pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief only allowing four hits and one run. Steinke went 2-4 at the plate with three runs batted in. Sullivan and Kaskie each added two hits each throughout game two. CCC stayed patient at the plate earning seven walks, two each by Sheridan and Delaney Reeg.

Head coach Caitlin Simon said, "A big part of what we've seen lately is we're playing timid and not being aggressive defensively. Luckily this is something we can control and continue to improve moving forward," said Coach Simon. "We must continue to trust the process and each other. We are a new, young team, and all we can focus on is growing and learning every time we're out."

The games for Monday March 10th at Briar Cliff have been postponed due to field conditions. The Raiders will host Des Moines Community College March 17th at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
