Softball: Raiders Split Weekend Series

The CCC softball team lost a double-header on Saturday to Southeast Community College before winning a twin bill with Northeast Community College on Sunday. A recap of each game is below. The 10-7 Raiders are off until March 20 when they travel to Concordia, Kan. for a double-header at Cloud County Community College. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.

CCC vs. Southeast Community College

In the opener, the visiting Bobcats built a 4-2 lead over the first two innings before exploding with five runs in the top of the third en route to a 10-5 victory. CCC's Addison Heule scored a pair of runs and hit a double while pitcher Addison Kudron gave up eight hits and six runs over 5.2 innings before taking the loss.

In the second battle, the Raiders led 6-5 after three innings before Southeast put the game away with 13 runs in the fourth inning and went on to a 21-11 win. CCC's Haley Johnson belted a two-run homerun and tallied three RBI. McKinna Moats smacked a solo homerun and totaled three RBI. Brianne Lawver scored four runs. Heule took the loss.

"Saturday was just a rough day all around," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "It was one of those days where we had to put it behind us fast and look forward to another opportunity to play Sunday."


CCC vs. Northeast Community College

The Raiders bounced back in a big way in the opening contest against Northeast by building a 10-1 lead over the first two innings. CCC scored two more runs on the way to a 12-4 victory in five innings. Moats scored three runs and recorded a homerun and three RBI. Heule also scored three runs and made three hits while Jaidyn Walford scored a pair runs and recorded four RBI. Kudron was the winning pitcher.

Just like the first game, CCC built a big lead over the Hawks in the first innings, 8-1. The Raiders added a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings and posted a 10-4 win. Gracie Herman, Ava Steinke and Walford each scored a pair of run with Herman recording a homerun. Heule was the winning pitcher while Andrea Palma collected five strikeouts our 4.2 innings in the circle.

"I was proud of the way the team bounced back after Saturday," said Simon. "As a team, we discussed the game plan, which was staying focused on us, bringing good energy and being more competitive defensively."
