Softball: North Arkansas Tournament Recap

The CCC softball team went 4-1 at the Winter Classic hosted by North Arkansas College. A recap of each game is below. The 4-1 Raiders will open the home portion of the season on Sunday with a double-header against Highland (Kan.) Community College. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Raider Field.

Game 1: CCC 9  East Central (Mo.) College 2

Addison Heule scored three runs while six other CCC players scored one run apiece as the Raiders triumphed over the Falcons, 9-2. CCC scored six runs in the first inning while East Central scored both of its runs in the same inning. CCC's Andrea Palma finished with four RBI and Haley Johnson logged three RBI. Addison Kudron pitched all seven innings, giving up seven hits and two runs en route to the win.

Game 2: Game 1: CCC 11  East Central (Mo.) College 8

The Raiders scored four runs in the second inning and three apiece in the fourth and fifth innings before the Falcons staged a late rally. Trailing 10-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning, East Central scored five runs to pull to within two points, 10-8. Kudron, winning pitcher in the first game, returned to the circle and recorded one out to get the save. Palma was the winning pitcher while Brianne Lawver record two RBI.

The Raiders and Falcons were scheduled to play a third game, but it was cancelled due to weather.

Game 3: North Arkansas College 11  CCC 5

The host Pioneers outscored the Raiders, 9-2 over the first two innings and never looked back in an 11-5 victory. Kudron and Lawver each scored two runs while McKinna Moats scored one run. Heule took the loss.

Game 4: CCC 11  North Arkansas College 10

The Raiders won a slugfest with the Pioneers, 11-10. The teams combined for 30 hits and 20 RBI. Kudron, Lawver, Moats and Ava Steinke each recorded a pair of RBI. Kudron went 4.2 innings in the circle while Palma pitched 2.1 innings and collected the win.

Game 5: CCC 8  North Arkansas College 7

The Raiders staged a furious late rally to post an 8-7 win over the Pioneers. Trailing 7-1 after five innings, CCC scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning and added three more in the seventh to pull to within one, 7-6. Jaidyn Walford smacked a double which allowed Kudron and Tabitha Cooney to score the runs that put the Raiders ahead for good, 8-7. Four CCC pitchers saw time in the circle with Kudron collecting the save and Heule getting the win.

"We had a great first weekend out," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "Going 4-1 is a perk but the best part was seeing our group of young girls compete hard to come out on top in four of the games. We look to build off this weekend in our home opener on Sunday."
