Softball: DMACC Beats CCC in District Championship

The Central Community College softball team lost two games to Des Moines Area Community College in the best-of-three North Plains B District Championship on Friday at Raider Field. The Bears shut out the Raiders, 9-0, in game one followed by a 6-2 victory in the second game.

In the opener, the Bears scored three runs in the first inning and six in the second and held on for the shutout victory. CCC pitcher Kailee Pollard took the loss to close out her season in the circle at 18-9.

In the second game, DMACC again got off to a hot start with a 4-0 advantage after two innings. CCC scored a run in the fourth inning and the sixth inning while the Bears scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to complete the 6-2 win. Addison Kudron took the loss for the Raiders.

With the losses, the Raiders finish the 2023 season with a mark of 31-18.

"How we finished this season shows how far we've come as a program over the year," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "This sophomore class was a special group and made a lot of history. I can't thank them enough for buying in to our culture and helping build our program. They will be missed."

Simon also said she believes the future of CCC softball is in good hands.

"Our freshmen know what it takes, and after this year we are setting our goals higher and really looking ahead and competing to win a district title."
