Softball: Raiders Win Region 9 Championship

The Central Community College softball team won the Region 9 championship on Sunday with a 10-8 win over Southeast Community College on Sunday at Raider Field. The Raiders made it to the title game with a 9-1 win over North Platte Community College on Sunday.

"The games this weekend showed the grit this team has," said CCC head coach Catlin Simon. "We came out fired up on Saturday and took care of business. On Sunday, we showed our depth in the circle and through the lineup. We have great chemistry which has played a huge role in our success this year."

The 31-16 Raiders advance to the North Plains A District Championship against Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). The Raiders will host the best-of-three tournament at Raider Field on Friday with the first game at 11 a.m. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. If a third game is necessary, it will be played on Saturday at 11 a.m. The 47-10 Bears punched their ticket to the district championship with a 4-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College on Sunday.

"I am looking forward to competing against DMACC, one of the top junior college programs," said Simon.

Following CCC's victory, Emma Lees, McKinna Moats, Katie Paczosa, Kailee Pollard and Caroline Riffer were named to the All-Region 9 Team. Additionally, Riffer was named as the Region 9 Offensive Player of the Year while Pollard was named the Region 9 Pitcher of the Year.

"Caroline is electric and so much fun to watch," said Simon. "She's our go-to person that gives us a spark offensively. Kailee has been amazing over the past two years, and she is one of the most dedicated players who sets goals and does everything to achieve them."
