Softball: Raiders Bust Broncos; Hot Streak Rolls On

The Central Community College softball team swept the Hastings College JV in a double-header at the Bill Smith Softball Complex.

In the opener, CCC scored a run in the top of the second and added three more in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 lead. The Raiders tacked on another run in the top of the fifth before the Broncos avoided a shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh, giving CCC the 5-1 victory.

Emma Lees logged a homerun while Kenzie Bonner and McKinna Moats each recorded doubles. Kaylee Meese posted two RBIs while Lees and Jada Berry each posted one. CCC pitcher Kailee Pollard (pictured, foreground) collected the win, boosting her record to 13-6.

In the nightcap, the Broncos jumped out of the gate with a 3-1 lead after the first inning. CCC batters came to life with three runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings, all of which were unanswered, and the Raiders led 10-3. CCC scored five more runs in the top of the seventh to post a 15-3 win.

Moats and Katie Paczosa (pictured, background) each belted homeruns while Bonner, Moats, Addison Heule and Caroline Riffer made doubles. With the win, CCC hurler Addison Kudron improves to 6-2.

The Raiders are 24-13 on the season, which includes a 5-1 record last week with double-header road ventures at Northeast, North Platte and McCook. CCC head coach Caitlin Simon said the team's performance was huge and described the performance of the pitching staff as tremendous.

"We won two of the five games coming from behind in the sixth and seventh innings," said Simon. "These types of games are good to play at this point in the season because it shows our competitiveness and fight. We will need both to win the region tournament in a couple weeks."

The Raiders will host the Region 9 tournament on May 6 and 7 at Raider Field. Game times and matchups will be announced at a later date.
