Men’s Basketball: SCC Tourney Recap

The Central Community College men's basketball team won both games at the Southeastern Community College Holiday Classic. A recap of each contest is below. The Raiders have won three in a row and sport a record of 9-3 heading into Tuesday's home game against the Peru State College JV. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.

Game 1: CCC 75  Highland (Kan.) Community College 72 OT

The Raiders needed an extra session to put away the Scotties after neither team could score in the final minutes of regulation. The score was tied at 61 apiece late in the contest when CCC missed a layup, giving the ball back to Highland. The Scotties were also unable to score, forcing overtime. The Raiders held off Highland, 14-11, in the extra session which game them the 75-72 win.

"Highland is always a very disciplined, tough team and we knew offense wasn't going to come easy against them," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "We played some lineups we don't normally play and they did a great job, which kept us in the game."

PJ Davis led all scorers with 26 points while Dakarai Davis (pictured left) scored 14 points. Blake Daberkow finished with 12 points.

Game 2: CCC 98  Allen County (Kan.) Community College 72

The Raiders and Red Devils kept it close in the first half as CCC led 43-40 at halftime before the Raiders scored 55 second-half points en route to the 26-point win.

Once again, Davis led the CCC scoring attack with 23 points while Daberkow scored 19 points. Davis totaled 15 points and Frank Keller rounded out the double-digit scoring with 14 points.

"I'm proud of the guys for being ready to play after a tough game the day before," said Ritzdorf. "PJ did a great job initiating offense for us again. we really shot the ball well, especially in the second half to pull away."
