Men’s Basketball: Raiders Tackle Tigers

Blake Daberkow poured in 36 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to lead the Central Community College men's basketball team to an 88-64 win over the Doane University JV on Thursday night.

The Raiders jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first five minutes of the contest before the Tigers picked up steam with a 14-5 run to trail 21-19 midway through the half. CCC went back up by double digits, but Doane evened the score at halftime, 39-39.

Midway through the second half, the Raiders were up 59-55 when they outscored the Tigers, 29-9, the rest of the way to post the 24-point win.

"We got off to a slow start defensively and allowed them to be way too comfortable in the first half," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "I thought our defensive intensity was much better in the second half which led to some easy buckets for us. It was great to get a win on opening night, but we must keep getting better and clean up some fundamental things."

PJ Davis scored 19 points while Dakarai Davis finished with a dozen points.

The 1-0 Raiders will return to action on Tuesday with a home game against the York University JV. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
