Men’s Basketball: Raiders Bury Beavers

The Central Community College men's basketball team defeated the Buena Vista University JV, 93-77, at the Raider Fieldhouse on Friday night.

The Raiders and Beavers kept it close until the 4:38 mark of the first half when the score was tied at 34 apiece. CCC rattled off a 14-4 run to end the half to take a 48-34 halftime lead. Buena Vista opened the second half with a 7-0 run to pull to within three, 48-45. That's as close as the Beavers would get as the Raiders went to lead by as many as 21 points.

Trey Deveaux led four CCC players in double figures with 24 points. Blake Daberkow and PJ Davis each scored 16 points apiece while Jayden Byabato tallied 15 points.

"Offensively, we played with great rhythm and attacked the basket well all night," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "Defensively, we let them get way too comfortable early in the game. They're a good shooting team and we let them get their confidence up. We definitely had to play the full 40 minutes to earn the win."

The Raiders have won three in a row and sport a record of 16-7. Up next, CCC will host Northeast Community College on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Raiders will be looking for revenge after they lost to the Hawks, 81-75, on Nov. 8 in Norfolk. Northeast is 11-12 on the season following a 91-64 loss to Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday.
