Men’s Basketball: Raiders Rebuff Reivers

The Central Community College men's basketball team won at Iowa Western Community College, 72-52, on Saturday in Council Bluffs.

The Raiders led by as many as eight points in the first half before taking a 35-30 lead to the locker room at halftime. Midway through the second half, the Raiders were up 55-41 when they rattled off a 13-4 run to take a 22-point lead, their biggest of the game.

CCC's Trey Deveaux posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Derek Merwick scored 17 points. PJ Davis came off the bench and scored a dozen points. CCC outscored IWCC in the paint, 30-12.

"This is the most complete game we've played in a long time," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "The guys followed the game plan and made things difficult for Max Polk, IWCC's leading scorer. Offensively, we were really balanced. Derek and Trey played great all-around games. PJ, Jayden Byabato and Blake Daberkow hit timely shots as well.

With the win, the Raiders sweep the season series with the Reivers and improve to 15-7 on the year.

Up next, CCC will host the Buena Vista University JV on Thursday. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
