Men’s Basketball: Raiders Start 2-0

The Central Community College men's basketball team is 2-0 on the season with road wins at Doane University JV and Peru State College JV. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders return to action on Tuesday night with a 7:30 p.m. game at Northeast Community College.

CCC 96  Doane University JV 47

The Raiders took control of the Tigers early on and built a 45-24 halftime lead and kept the momentum going in the second half to earn the 49-point victory. Trey Deveaux led four CCC players in double figures with 31 points while Derek Merwick totaled 15 points. PJ Davis scored 14 points off the bench while Jayden Byabato finished with 13 points.

"It's always good to start the season with a win," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "The guys played really well. Trey really got it going early and helped us stretch the lead by halftime. It was great to see everyone get in and contribute."

CCC 83  Peru State College University 55

The Raiders scored 50 second-half points en route to an 83-55 triumph over the Bobcats. Once again, Deveaux topped four CCC players in double figures, this time with 22 points. Byabato tallied 13 points, Blake Daberkow finished with 11 and Davis chipped in 10 points.

"This group naturally plays hard on the defensive end of the floor and that really helped tonight when we got off to a slow start offensively," said Ritzdorf. "We had a nice run in the second half to get some separation. We are looking forward to a few days off to get ready for three tough games next week."
