Esports: Fall 2023 Regular Season Summary

The fall 2023 esports regular season has concluded and the playoffs are ahead. CCC head coach Lucas Lumbra assesses each team and previews the post-season.

Call of Duty 4v4 – The group finished with a 6-1 record and garnered the #1 seed in the nation going in to the playoffs. Notable victories included a 3-0 sweep over the two-time defending champs, University of South Carolina Sumter, on Oct. 12. The only loss came on Oct. 17 against St. Clair College of Canada.

"If we meet the Saints in the playoffs, it will be an incredibly tough challenge," Lumbra said. "We will be preparing heavily over the next week and plan to be ready for the matchup."

The first round of Call of Duty 4v4 playoffs begins Nov. 7.

Call of Duty 2v2Jackson Peabody and Ayden Veik finished the season 7-0, joining 4v4 as the top seed in the nation heading into the playoffs. The duo had a couple statement wins throughout the season, including a 3-1 win over defending champion Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) on October 19. CCC also took down Union College, 3-1, on Sept. 14, something not too many teams are able to do.

"There are multiple teams that have only one or two losses, including IWCC and Union, which we expect to be incredibly tough in the playoffs," said Lumbra. "However, Jackson and Ayden will be up for the challenge."

The first round of the Call of Duty 2v2 playoffs is set for Nov. 9.

Rocket League – The group finished 4-3 and will be the #5 seed in the west regional playoffs. After an up-and-down season, which featured a pair of five-game losses, the group righted the ship in a must-win matchup on Oct. 27. The showdown had CCC up against 6-0 Salt Lake (Utah) Community College and the Raiders came through with a huge 3-1 victory over the Bruins.

"CCC's tier 1 lineup includes rookies Ed Dozler and Quinn Stewart alongside returner Daurys Neris," Lumbra said. "They know it will not be an easy road through the playoffs, but they will be prepared and confident."

The first round of Rocket League regional matchups gets underway on Nov. 10.
