Dennis was the Women’s Basketball Coach from 1978 to 1988. He was a well-organized coach and his teams were always disciplined and sound in the fundamentals of the game. He recruited the Nebraska high schools, especially in Columbus and the surrounding communities. His 1982-83 team won the National Little College Athletic Association District Championship and placed 6th in the National Tournament of the NLCAA. Some of Dennis’ outstanding players that he coached during his tenure were: Cindy Aerni, Sharon Vanis and Barb Wragge, Central Community College Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees. Dennis will be remembered by his players as fair, compassionate and a coach that had his teams prepared for any situation. Central Athletics will always be grateful for Dennis VanFossen’s leadership for our Women’s Basketball Program.
