The Central Community College volleyball team won two and lost one at the Northeast Nebraska Volleyball Tournament hosted by Northeast Community College. A brief recap of each match is below. The Raiders are now 7-2 on the season and will return to Raider Fieldhouse on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. meeting with McCook Community College.
Match 1 vs. Lake Region State College
The Raiders dispatched the Royals with a sweep. The final scores were 25-13, 25-16, 25-14.
Mallory Gotschall led CCC in kills with 10, while Rylee Kwapnioski dished out 30 assists. Maddie Walkowiak recorded a dozen digs and Jacie Laetsch logged 10.
Match 2 vs. Kirkwood Community College
The Eagles swept the Raiders, but not before CCC put up a massive fight in the second game. Kirkwood took the first set, 25-15. The Raiders pushed the Eagles in the second stanza before Kirkwood was able to outlast CCC, 31-29. The Eagles completed the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third game.
Laetsch posted a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Kwapnioski finished with 24 assists.
"Our play against Kirkwood was disappointing," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We had opportunities to take control, particularly in the second set and we let those opportunities slip away. Our play was far too inconsistent against Kirkwood and we couldn't get in a rhythm offensively and it dictated the result of the match."
Match 3 vs. Fort Scott Community College
The Raiders went a full five games before emerging victorious over the Greyhounds. The final scores read 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 17-15.
Once again, Laetsch logged a double-double with 14 kills and 26 digs. Shania Borchers and Lydia Permenter finished with 11 kills each. Kwapnioski handed out 51 assists.
"It was good to get the win on Saturday to finish off the week," said Young. "We seem to take a long route in getting a few of our wins with it going five sets again. However, I was proud of our resolve and patience in the win over a talented Fort Scott team."
