Volleyball: Raiders Defeat Ravens and Wildcats

The Central Community College volleyball team picked up wins over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Baker University JV on Friday night in Overland Park, Kan. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC remains on the road for a double-header on Saturday at Ottawa University.

Match 1 vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M

The Raiders needed five games to get the win over the Ravens. The final scores were 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13.

Jacie Laetsch and Katelynn Halstead led the way in kills with 14 apiece, while Rylee Kwapnioski totaled 51 assists. Mallory Gotschall finished with 29 digs, while Laetsch posted 26.

"It was great effort to get the win over NEO," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "The match lasted over two hours, so it was a battle and it was awesome to get such a quality win."

Match 2 vs. Baker JV

CCC looked like it was headed for a sweep before the Wildcats came roaring back to force a fifth game. The final scores read 25-22, 25-16, 25-27, 21-25, 15-10.

Laetsch topped the Raiders in kills with 21, while Kwapnioski registered 46 assists. Gotschall finished with 27 digs.

"Against Baker, I thought we were sluggish and emotionally maybe a little drained after winning the NEO match," said Young. However, the players showed a lot of resolve in getting the job done."
