Volleyball: Raiders Deny the Knights

The Central Community College volleyball team defeated North Platte Community College, 3-1, in North Platte on Thursday night. The win gives the Raiders an overall mark of 19-2.

CCC and NPCC split the opening sets with the Raiders winning first, 25-22, followed by the Knights getting even, 25-22. CCC then took the match with victories in the final two sets – 25-22, 25-23.

"Overall I thought North Platte played a great match and really made us work for our points," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "In the second set, we had way too many ball-handling errors and it gave NPCC a lot of life and rattled a few of our players. I thought that carried into the final sets, but I was pleased with our ability to stay poised and find ways to earn points."

Maeghan Pieper logged a team-high 13 kills, while Paxton Throne dished out 38 assists. Jessica Eurek recorded a match-high 21 digs.

"Defensively I thought Jessica Eurek played a great match," said Young. "She kept a ton of balls alive and our backcourt in general had some great pursuit balls that we saved."

The Raiders will take the weekend off and return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 27, against Iowa Western Community College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. The Raiders lost to the Reivers on Friday, Sept. 15, in Council Bluffs, 3-1.
