Volleyball: CCC Splits at IWCC Triangular

The Central Community College volleyball team went 1-1 in a triangular hosted by Iowa Western Community College on Friday.

First, CCC defeated Cloud County Community College of Kansas, 3-0. The final scores read 25-16, 25-12, 25-18. Amber Anderson recorded seven kills, while Paxton Throne dished out 25 assists. Jessica Eurek logged six digs

"It was a good win over Cloud County to start the night," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We played a variety of lineups and I was pleased with our ability to play together and get the sweep. We didn't allow Cloud County to get into much of a rhythm offensively and it led to a quick win."

In the nightcap, the Reivers and the Raiders split the first two sets with IWCC taking the opener, 25-14, followed by CCC posting a 26-24 victory in the second set. Iowa Western then closed out the match with finals of 25-19 and 25-17 in the final two sets.

Jacie Laetsch finished with 13 kills, while Paxton Throne totaled 32 assists and 14 digs.

"Overall, it was a great opportunity for us to play such a great offensive team as they are ranked #2 in NJCAA Division I and they definitely deserve the ranking," said Young. "As a team, it made us better physically and mentally. At the same time, great teams expose weaknesses and it gives us an opportunity to work on aspects of our game that will make us stronger as the season progresses."
