The Central Community College volleyball team competed in the Kirkwood Community College tournament over the weekend, posting a 3-1 mark. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC returns to Raider Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night to take on McCook Community College.

Match 1: vs. Parkland College

The Cobras handed the Raiders a straight-sets loss with the finals reading 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. The loss to Parkland was CCC's first loss of the 2017 season.

Chainey Tompkin led CCC in kills with eight, while Paxton Throne delivered 27 assists. Jessica Eurek finished with six digs.

"We were disappointed with our result against top-ranked Parkland," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "I think we learned a lot about ourselves and it will serve us well as the season progresses."

Match 2: vs. McHenry County College

The Raiders bounced back following the loss to Parkland College with a 3-0 victory over the Scots of McHenry County College – 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

Chainey Tompkin topped the Raiders in kills with 10, while Paxton Throne totaled 28 assists. Jessica Eurek tallied 11 digs.

Match 3: vs. Illinois Central College

Central Community College opened Saturday play with a 3-1 victory over the Cougars. The Raiders took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-16. Illinois Central then posted a 25-22 win, followed by CCC's 25-20 victory to take the match.

Jacie Laetsch totaled 11 kills to lead the Raiders, while Paxton Throne handed out 37 assists. Jessica Eurek stayed busy with 26 digs.

Match 4: vs. Sauk Valley CC

CCC closed out the Kirkwood Tournament with a 3-1 triumph over the Skyhawks. The Raiders and Sauk Valley split the first two sets, with CCC winning first, 25-23, followed by the Skyhawks 25-21 win. The Raiders finished the match with finals of 25-21 and 25-15.

Maeghan Pieper logged a match-high 15 kills, while Paxton Throne tallied a weekend-best 43 assists. Jessica Eurek also delivered big with 16 digs.

"I was happy with our ability to bounce back after the Parkland match and win against three ranked teams," said Young. "I can't say enough about the backcourt play and hustle of our libero, Jessica Eurek. She passed well and played tremendous defense and really kept a lot of balls in play for us."
