Johnson Named AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named Central Community College assistant coach Jared Johnson as the 2016 AVCA Two-Year College National Assistant Coach of the Year.

"I think this award is a reflection of the Central Community College volleyball program," said Johnson. "Coach Mary Young is great to work with and has built an amazing program. This coupled with a supportive administration and great athletes to work with, makes it truly an award for the entire program."

Johnson is in his seventh season as an assistant with the Raiders, which is a part-time position. In his role, Johnson works primarily with the primary passers, team defense and scouting reports. Additionally, he is a staple at CCC volleyball camps and travel camps and keeps the social media community informed about the happenings of the CCC volleyball team.

"Our entire team is so excited for Jared, not to mention proud of him for earning this award," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "Jared loves the game and has great passion for working with young people. He does so much for our program and his insight is invaluable. We are very fortunate to have him on the Raiders' sideline."

Professionally, Johnson is a counselor at Columbus Middle School where he has been employed for seven years. He previously taught seventh-grade science at CMS and for three years served as the head volleyball coach at Columbus High School.

Johnson is very active in the community, holding memberships in the Nebraska Coaches Association, Next Generation Kiwanis Club, Nebraska Counselors Association and St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. An advocate for cancer awareness and research, Johnson donated bone marrow in 2012 to an unknown recipient who was battling leukemia. He also volunteers his time in the Relay for Life program.
