Grand Rapids Wins the Battle of the Raiders

The Central Community College Raiders saw their season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Grand Rapids took control early building a 16-8 advantage. CCC responded with a 6-2 run to trail 18-14. However, Grand Rapids did not allow CCC to take away the momentum, taking the first set, 25-17.

After the second set was tied at 5-5, CCC came to life and built a 19-14 lead, forcing a second time out. Grand Rapids responded by going on a 7-1 run to take a 21-20 lead. The set was a nail-biter from that point on with CCC going up 23-22. But it was CCC's last lead as Grand Rapids tied it up and scored the next two points for the 25-23 victory.

CCC owned the third set from the get go as it built a 13-6 advantage, and later a 19-8 lead. But not to be outdone, Grand Rapids fired back with a 9-2 run to pull to within four points, 21-17. CCC was able to hold off Grand Rapids to take win the set, 25-18.

In the fourth set, Grand Rapids was able to find the energy it displayed in the first set. GRCC began by building a five-point lead at 15-10, and ultimately a 12-point advantage before winning the set, 25-13.

The loss gives Central Community College a 30-11 mark for the 2016 season.
