COLUMBUS -- Coming off a 2-2 weekend, the Raiders were missing something.

Call it a confidence boost. Call it a need for certainty.

"We were trying to find our swag," Central head coach Mary Young said.

Or call it swag.

At times, the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 4 Central Community College volleyball team showed that swag, beating Southeast Community College 25-18, 25-5, 25-27, 25-12 Wednesday at the Raider Fieldhouse.

"We really felt that if we could have put them away in Set 3, we definitely would have found that swag, because we really put it on them in Set 2," Young said.

But a number of Raider passing errors in Set 3, coupled with the Storm's ability to extend points, helped Southeast nip the Raiders 27-25 in the third set.

"Southeast is a good team," Young said. "They have some weapons and they were getting us out of system a little bit and as a result, they had some success."

Central overcame those weapons early, though, downing the Storm 25-18 in the first set, in which Southeast held the lead two times and tied the five times.

If anyone on the Raider squad found that swag, it was Megan Anderson, who notched a team-high 17 kills in the match.

Anderson broke out for seven kills and one block in the first set to help Central take control.

"Megan took over the match," Young said. "We're very happy with her play and we know that she can do that to teams and we expect it from her every match. I felt like she did a really good job of staying active at the net and making their blockers work hard."

That intensity spilled over for the Raiders, as Central stumped Southeast 25-5 in the second set.

Central rattled off nine straight points before Southeast finally recorded a point off a Raider error.

Skyler Erickson served for eight consecutive points later in the set, recording three aces during her stint behind the line.

"We came out of that second set with a really big win and the third set you can almost expect a letdown," Young said. "You expect that letdown a little bit."

She was right, as Southeast turned the tables, stealing the momentum in Set 3.

"We didn't pass very well in Set 3 and that really set the tone all the way around," Young said.

Then, Central made another statement against the Storm in a 25-12 set win to seal the match.

Of Southeast's 12 points in the set, seven came off Raider errors.

Though Young knows Central needs to cut down on those errors, the win was just what the Raiders needed.

"We still walked away feeling good about winning the match and taking it at them again in Set 4," she said.

Central travels to the Iowa Western Community College Invitational Friday.
