MCCOOK -- The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 3 Central Community College volleyball team took on McCook Community College for the second time this year.

For the second time, the Raiders came away with the three-set victory over McCook 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 Wednesday in McCook.

"McCook has a nice student section and it can be a reasonably tough place to play," Central head coach Mary Young said. "You want to take care of games on the road and I thought we did that tonight."

Though Central was able to cruise to the victory in McCook Wednesday, it didn't come as easily as their first meeting.

"I thought McCook was much improved," Young said. "They made some strides. They hit well and dug some balls. I felt for us to win in three the way we did was good for us."

Central though, has made strides itself, most notably in consistency, which is a huge plus for the Raiders, Young said.

That showed in Wednesday's win, too.

"Error-wise we only had six errors for the night," Young said. "We hit very efficiently. I was pleased to see that with a long trip out there. We really have been more consistent. We have had a lot less errors in the last matches and that's nice, because we obviously want to see that as the season progresses."

Payton Chohon and Morgan Nikkila led the Raiders in kills with 13 each, while Skyler Erickson added nine kills.

Chohon's 13 kills came off 18 swings with only two errors for a .611 kill percentage, while Nikkila had 18 swings and no errors for a .722 kill percentage.

"I thought our two freshmen -- our kill leaders -- they hit well," Young said. "We're making better choices. Particularly Payton made better choices at the net and was real aggressive."

The Raiders were able to find production from around the court, though, especially from a mismatch on McCook.

"(Central setter) Cassidy (Yong) did a nice job of moving the ball around," Young said. "I feel our outsides really took advantage of their shorter block out there. That was good to see that Cassidy was recognizing that."

Yong recorded 43 assists in the match, while Molly Gotschall had a team-high 16 digs.

The Raiders travel to North Platte Community College Thursday.
