Women’s Basketball: Indians Defeat Raiders

The Central Community College women's basketball team lost at McCook Community College, 84-68, on Wednesday night.

CCC fell behind by 15 points in the first quarter before trailing by nine at halftime, 44-35. The Raiders picked up steam in the second half and pulled to within five points with six minutes remaining in regulation. However, the Indians rattled off a late scoring surge to post the 16-point victory.

"After a slow defensive start in the first quarter, we settled down and played better defense," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "We just ran out of time."

Day zchay lon Gardner led the Raiders in scoring with 20 points, while Monica Brooks (pictured left) scored 18 points. Maddie Davis rounded out the CCC double-digit scoring with a dozen points.

The loss gives CCC a final regular season mark of 10-14.

Up next, the Raiders will host North Platte Community College in the Region IX tournament championship game on Monday night. CCC swept the season series with NPCC, winning 68-62 in North Platte on Jan. 11. The Raiders completed the sweep with a 72-65 victory over the Lady Knights at Raider Fieldhouse on Feb. 8. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
