Women’s Basketball: Tigers Barely Get By Raiders

A missed three-pointer by CCC's Isabel Diaz preserved a 71-68 win for Marshalltown Community College in round one of the Marshalltown Classic.

Marshalltown's Clara Solsona made two free throws with two seconds remaining, which gave the Tigers the three-point advantage. With two minutes to go in regulation, the Raiders went up 64-62 on a jump shot by Monica Brooks. However, the Tigers closed out the match on a 9-4 run, capped off by Solsona's free throws.

"We fought till the end but came up a little short," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "Marshalltown did a good job attacking our defense and getting to the free throw line. It seemed that we never got going to finish the game."

Brooks led four CCC players in double figures with 20. Day zchay lon Gardner totaled 13 points, while Averie Miller and Alexis Ramaekers each finished with 11 points.

With the loss, the Raiders are now 1-5 on the season.

Up next, CCC will meet Des Moines Area Community College in Saturday's second-round action of the Marshalltown Classic.
