Women’s Basketball: Hastings JV Holds Off CCC

The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to Hastings College JV, 66-65, on Thursday night at Raider Fieldhouse.

The Raiders defense got right to work in the first quarter, holding the Broncos to eight points. The Hastings offense got going in the second quarter, but CCC still had the upper hand at the half, 34-25. The Raiders continued to lead with a 50-42 advantage after three quarters, but the Broncos saved the best for last as they outscored the Raiders, 24-15 in the final stanza to secure the win.

"We let one get away from us but we did a good job fighting back and continued to fight," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins, who noted the 56-42 advantage his team had in rebounding. "I thought the girls did a good job on the defensive end with the boards."

Payton Blake led the way with a double-double, consisting of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Maddy Wolfe also logged a double-double with 18 points and a dozen rebounds. Quenshae Love finished the night with 15 points.

The loss gives the Raiders a mark of 5-14.

Up next, the Raiders will host Marshalltown Community College in a Saturday matinee. Tip-off at Raider Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.
