Raiders Quiet Lady Storm

Central Community College led by amassed a 23-point lead en route to a 98-76 victory over Southeast Community College. The win gives the Raiders a 13-14 final mark for the regular season, while the Lady Storm close out the regular season at 6-22.

The Raiders began the contest with a 6-2 run over the first two minutes, but the Lady Storm evened the score at six apiece less than a minute later. CCC then rattled off a 16-5 run to go up by a mark of 22-11 with under two to play. The Raiders led after the first period, 27-16.

CCC opened the second quarter with a 9-2 run to take an 18-point lead with eight minutes to play. The Lady Storm were unable to match the intensity and the Raiders took off again, this time on an 11-5 run which led to a 20-point advantage, the biggest of the first half. SECC then shutout CCC with an 8-0 run over the final 2:30 of the first half and the Raiders went to the locker room leading 47-35.

The Lady Storm kept the momentum going after halftime with a 14-8 run over the first 7:30 to pull to within six points, 55-49. But that's as close as SECC would get as the Raiders went on a 7-2 run to close out the third quarter for a 64-51 advantage.

SECC pulled to within single digits to open the final quarter with a 6-1 burst to pull to within eight points. However, the Raiders got hot and eventually built the 23-point lead before logging the final score.

"I am very proud of the team," said CCC head coach Mike Kroupa. "I thought our press was helpful in setting the tone."

Teisha Snyder led six CCC players in double figures with a game-high 25 points. Payton Blanke recorded a double-double with 19 points and a dozen rebounds.

"Payton really played a great game despite being in foul trouble," said Kroupa.

The Lady Storm sported four players in double figures. DeAsia Walker totaled 16 points, while Kaatia Wateen scored 14 points.

The Raiders and the Lady Storm will get together for a first-round Region IX playoff contest on Wednesday night at Raider Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
