Hawks Hang On to Defeat Raiders

Northeast Community College forward Maddie Egr logged a double-double to lead the Hawks to a 78-65 win over Central Community College at Raider Fieldhouse. Egr scored 17 points and hauled in 13 rebounds.

The Raiders held the Hawks to nine points in the second quarter and trailed 36-30 at halftime. In the second half, CCC kept it close but was never able to get past Northeast. Defensively, the Hawks forced 22 Raider turnovers.

"We struggled with their size, but we did a nice job of being patient both on offense and defense," said CCC head coach Mike Kroupa. "That will help us as we move into regional play this coming weekend."

CCC's Maddy Wolfe led four players in double figures with 15 points, while Quenshae Love and Teisha Snyder each scored 14 points. Payton Blanke rounded out the double-digit scoring with a dozen points.

For Northeast, Mykala Baylor tied with Egr with 17 points to lead the scoring, while Maeva Kitantou scored 13 points. Bianca McDonald and Aida Santana scored 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

The loss gives the Raiders a 7-9 mark on the 2016-17 season. CCC will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Monday at Raider Fieldhouse as Doane JV comes to town.
