BEATRICE -- A rushed offense, missed shots and solid Southeast defense kept the Raiders from winning a region championship.

The Central Community College women's basketball team shot 32 percent from the floor Monday in a 83-65 loss to Southeast Community College during the Region IX Tournament final in Beatrice.

"It was a combination of everything," Central head coach Mike Kroupa said. "I thought we settled too quickly at times and some of our shots just weren't falling the way we'd like them to."

The Raiders went 8-for-30 behind the arc and 11-for-20 at the free-throw line.

Central missed two layups to start the game, setting the tone early.

Meanwhile, the Storm rallied for a 15-point lead in the first half.

"Southeast came out strong, like we knew they would," Kroupa said.

However, the Raiders continued to fight back, breaking within seven points by halftime.

But Southeast continued to pile on in the second half, outscoring Central by 11 points to win the region tournament.

"Things just weren't falling the way we wanted them to," Kroupa said. "It just wasn't our night."

All but one of Southeast's starters scored in double digits, led by Chelseah Savage's 19 points.

Breanna Grant had 16 points for Southeast, while Dionne Martin and Veshae Wilkinson each added 10 points.

"They're a really good team," Kroupa said. "They try to push the ball a lot. The run a lot of pick-and-roll plays and are very effective with ball screens."

Adrianna Beck led Central with 17 points in the game with three 3-pointers.

Montrese Weller added 13 points, while La'nae Washington-Carson had 10 points for the Raiders.

Central finishes the season with a 15-14 record.
