BEATRICE -- The Raiders struggled from the start and couldn't fight their way back into it.

The Central Community College women's basketball team fell to Southeast Community College 93-56 Wednesday in Beatrice.

"They got up 10-0 in the first minute and a half," Central head coach Mike Kroupa said. "We tried fighting back in the first half, but never really recovered from it."

Southeast came out firing, scoring 52 points in the first half, while the Raiders were held to just 30 first-half points.

"What we talked about was making adjustments and playing smarter," Kroupa said. "We talked about trying to get to the foul line, which we didn't very much. We just need to start playing better defense is what it comes down to."

The Raiders held Southeast less than 50 points in the first half, but their offensive showing was even worse than the first half.

Central scored just 26 second-half points, while Southeast added 41 points to its total.

"We didn't shoot well," Kroupa said. "What killed us was we had 30 turnovers and that led to easy baskets. Southeast is a very good team this year. We can't expect to be in a game when we don't take care of the ball."

The Raiders shot 31 percent from the field, including 12 percent from 3-point range.

"They played some good defense but we missed a lot of open 3s," Kroupa said. "They played good defense and we missed a lot of shots that we're capable of making."

In total, Central turned the ball over 31 times.

"They had some good pressure, we just threw the ball away," Kroupa said. "We didn't come to the ball on passes and we just didn't take very good care of the ball."

The Raiders had trouble with Southeast's Breanna Grant. Grant recorded 24 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

"She had a lot of transition layups and she made a lot of easy buckets," Kroupa said.

The Raiders were led by McKenna Rossmeier, who scored 15 points. Paige Muhammad had 10 points, while Adrianna Beck added seven points, and Shananthia Bryant chipped in six points.

Central falls to 12-9 on the season and travel to take on North Platte Community College Friday.
