Raiders top Doane JV 76-50

COLUMBUS -- The Raiders were able to turn it around Sunday after a poor showing Friday.

After Friday's 74-58 loss to North Platte, the Central Community College women's basketball team defeated the Doane JV 76-50 Sunday at the Raider Fieldhouse.

"After Friday night's game, we needed to come together as a team," Central head coach Mike Kroupa said. "With the balanced scoring, it was a good team victory."

The Doane JV was able to play the Raiders close in the first half, until Central Switched up their defense.

"The first half was pretty close for a lot of it," Kroupa said. "We changed our defense and we had a press that gave them trouble and extended our lead."

Central outscored Doane 40-22 in the first half.

The second half was encouraging for Kroupa as well, as the Raiders were able to stay in control.

"In the past, we've taken our foot off the gas," he said. "(Sunday), I feel like we kept our focus and kept the intensity up. We got some good minutes off the bench and that's something we're going to need if we're going to go far this year."

The Raiders scored 36 in the second half and held the Doane JV to 28 points.

The Central defense allowed just 50 Doane points in the game.

"It was definitely our best defensive game of the season," Kroupa said. "We needed to improve and we took a step forward there today."

McKenna Rossmeier scored 16 points for the Raiders, while Montrese Weller added 15 points, and LaShonda Brewer scored 12 points.

Central hosts the Hastings JV Tuesday.
