COLUMBUS -- The Raiders bounced back from their first loss with a convincing win.

The Central Community College women's basketball team defeated the York JV 100-45 Monday at the Raider Fieldhouse.

"We told the girls right before the game, 'You have to focus. You have to respect the game of basketball, respect your opponent no matter what,'" Central head coach Mike Kroupa said.

The York JV put the first six points on the board to force the Raiders to call a timeout.

"I thought we kind of came out slow," Kroupa said. "We had to call a timeout right away when we got down 6-0 and then our focus was back on. It was a good opportunity for a lot of these girls to get some experience, which is really important for our depth.

"I just told them that we needed to get our heads straight and just focus. We have to be ready to go no matter what."

Following the timeout, the Raiders went on a 23-4 run and never looked back.

After the first half, the Raiders led 47-16.

Throughout the game, Central was able to put together runs to build on its lead.

"Offensively, we've been very efficient this year," Kroupa said. "We have a lot of ladies who can put the ball in the hole. It's been very balanced for the most part. We have a lot of girls scoring in the teens, so it's going to make us difficult to be scouted in the future and it definitely makes us, hopefully, a team that can make a push for nationals."

The Raiders outscored York 53-29 in the second half.

The Panthers were held to just 45 points in the game.

"Defense was good," Kroupa said. "The whole first half we played man. Still would like us to communicate better than what we're doing, but in the second half, we went mostly zone to give some of these younger girls a look. We've been playing a lot of zone this year, so we want to get some practice in there, too."

Montrese Weller led the Raiders with 16 points, while Kelsey Faherty had 15 points and six rebounds, and LaShonda Brewer scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Central hosts the Midland JV Friday.
