Softball: Region IX Championship Game 1 Recap

The Central Community College softball team lost to Southeast Community College, 12-6, in the first game of the best-of-three Region IX Championship.

CCC got a quick start in the top of the first when Grace Townsend batted in Shelby Behnk and Taylor Griffith for a 2-0 lead. SCC's Morgan Parsons scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 lead for the Raiders.

After a scoreless second inning, the scoring in the third was the exact opposite of the first inning as Townsend crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to increase the CCC lead to 3-1. In the bottom half of the inning, SCC's Kelsey Markey belted a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3.

The Raiders added two more runs in the top of the fourth as Behnk scored off an Alyssa Dockerty RBI and Townsend crossed the plate on Liberty Josoff's RBI for a 5-3 advantage.

The Storm took off by scoring three unanswered runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for a 12-5 lead.

CCC added a run in the top of the seventh as Dockerty scored on Shelby Gerloff's (pictured) RBI to make it a 12-6 score which turned out to be the final.

SCC's Katelynn Holiday went the distance for the Storm and was the winning pitcher, while CCC's Ashten Gibson took the loss.
