Men’s Soccer: CCC Survives Double OT Thriller

Luis Tovar scored the game-winning goal with just under a minute remaining in double-overtime to lift the Raiders to a 2-1 victory over Gillette College in crucial Region IX match. Jesus Jimenez provided the assist on the winning goal.

Both Gillette and CCC scored goals on penalty kicks late in the first half for the 1-1 tie. Saber Garcia scored for the Pronghorns, while Jermiah Vidale scored for the Raiders. The score remained dormant through regulation, the first overtime and almost the second extra session.

CCC netminder Joao Victor tallied five saves in the win.

"We would have liked to shave scored more goals with the number of opportunities that we had, but we were happy to get the win," said CCC head coach Hawken Hanna. "It was an important game for us to win and we did it in dramatic fashion."

With the win and other Region IX teams losing over the weekend, the Raiders qualified for the Region IX post-season tournament. However, CCC's seed and which team they will meet in the tournament will not be known until all other region games are played this weekend.

The Raiders (8-8-1) will close the regular season on Thursday with a home game against Doane University JV. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the Raider Soccer Complex.
