Men’s Soccer: Gillette Defeats CCC In OT

Gillette College's Lucas Trimble broke a 1-1 tie early in overtime to lift the Pronghorns to a 2-1 victory over the Raiders in the opening round of the Region IX tournament.

The Pronghorns opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Chelson Carollisen booted a goal off a Trimble assist. The 1-0 advantage for the remainder of the first half.

CCC evened the score in the 65th minute when Marcus Horwood found the back of the net off a Riolan Moradillo Mello assist. The score remained 1-1 through the end of regulation followed by Trimble's game-winning goal and the 2-1 overtime win.

"It was just a heart-wrenching loss," said CCC head coach Hawken Hanna. "The guys worked hard and really deserved a better result, but that's just how things go sometimes."

Ruben Gonzalez tallied six saves for the Raiders, while Prince Manneh logged 10 saves for the Pronghorns.

With the loss, the Raiders finished the 2018 season with a mark of 9-8-1.

"Overall, I'm really proud of how the guys have grown this year as players, but more importantly as people," said Hanna. "There are some great building blocks for us moving into the future."
