Men’s Soccer: Raiders Tie Rattlers

Defense took center stage in a 1-1 double-overtime tie between Central Community College and Otero Junior College on Saturday in La Junta, Colo.

Both goals were scored in the first half. CCC's Riolan Moradillo Mello found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. Two minutes before halftime, OJC's Arturo Chairez evened the game with his own unassisted goal and the teams went to halftime deadlocked at 1-1.

The tie remained intact through the second half and two extra sessions and although the Raiders had to settle for the draw, head coach Hawken Hanna was still pleased with the outcome.

"This is a great result for us," said Hanna. "We lost 4-1 to Otero earlier this year, so it was important to prove to ourselves that we are better than that. The guys played great, especially on defense."

CCC goalie Ruben Gonzalez recorded 12 saves on the day.

The Raiders are now 9-5-1 this season.

CCC will return to Raider Soccer Field for the two final regular season games on Friday and Saturday. The Raiders will take on the Cougars of Western Nebraska Community College on Friday at 4 p.m. CCC will host Northeastern Junior College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
