Men’s Soccer: Costa Leads CCC To Shutout Win

Peterson Costa (pictured) scored two goals to lead all scorers in a 6-0 CCC win over Midland JV on Sunday afternoon at Raider Soccer Field.

Nathan Kutalu logged the Raiders' first goal six minutes into the contest on an unassisted goal for a 1-0 edge. Costa added to the CCC lead four minutes later with his first goal of the day off the assist of Marcus Horwood for a 2-0 lead. In the 15th minute, Horwood and Costa swapped roles as Horwood scored the goal and Costa provided the assist to increase the Raiders' lead to 3-0. Costa scored his second goal of the game 15 minutes later when he teamed up with Harrinson Vicente on the assist and the CCC lead extended to 4-0. Eight minutes later, Vincente scored the final goal of the first half with Mohamed Mohamed on the assist as the Raiders took a 5-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was scoreless until the 83rd minute when Brady Miller found the back of the net off the assist of Luis Neave for a 6-0 lead, which turned out to be the final score.

CCC goalie Ruben Gonzalez recorded three saves to earn the shutout.

"We had a great team win," said CCC head coach Hawken Hanna. "We had a lot of players out with injuries so we needed big contributions from different individuals than normal and they all stepped up to the challenge."

The win gives the Raiders a 4-2 mark on the season.

Up next, CCC will return to Raider Soccer Field at 4 p.m. on Friday for a meeting with Trinidad State Junior College.
