Men’s Soccer: Raiders Handle The Hawks

The Central Community College men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 road victory at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.

The Hawks posted the game's first goal in the 20th minute when Arthur Lopez scored on a penalty kick for the 1-0 lead. The Raiders answered 15 minutes later when Peterson Costa booted a goal with Arthur Oliver assisting. The halftime score read 1-1.

The second half remained deadlocked until the 77th minute when CCC's Marcus Horwood found the back of the net as Oliver delivered his second assist on the day. The Raiders were able to run out the clock to secure the 2-1 triumph.

CCC goalie Ruben Gonzalez logged five saves on the day, while Northeast netminder Massimiliano Simonazzi totaled a pair of saves.

"I'm proud of the effort that we put in for the full 90 minutes," said CCC head coach Hawken Hanna. "The guys proved to themselves that they can really battle in a tough game. Northeast has a really strong team this year, so to win against them is a definite step in the right direction for us. There is still a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be by the end of the season, but we are on our way."

With the win, the Raiders are now 3-1 on the season.

CCC will return to action on Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest at Iowa Lakes Community College.
