COLUMBUS -- The Raiders hadn't earned a win since Sept. 20 before dropping the Warriors Wednesday.

The Central Community College men's soccer team defeated the Midland JV 3-0 at Wilderness Park.

"We needed a win," Central head coach Jon Brezenski said. "We just haven't been able to finish too well, so it was nice to have Rudy (Escobar) finish for us. We've been trying to work on it. It's been the missing piece for us right now -- our inability to finish. That's kind of been the story of the year. It's good to see that (Wednesday)."

Escobar put the Raiders ahead 1-0 when he found the back of the net off a Daniel Maganda assist at the seven minute, 33 second mark.

The fast start was just what the Raiders needed to get back on track.

"It was big," Brezenski said of the quick start. "We've struggled a little bit and we didn't have a great practice (Tuesday), so for us to come out early and get a goal was big, especially early in the game."

Jhonny Beltran pushed Central ahead 2-0 off an Edson Irineo assist in the 28th minute.

Up 2-0 at halftime, the Central mindset was to come out and take care of business as usual.

"I don't like that score too much, so it was good to see that we didn't let them come out and sneak one out on us," Brezenski said.

Escobar kicked in another goal from another Maganda assist in the 56th minute.

"(Escobar's) turned on another gear over the last couple of weeks," Brezenski said. "That's kind of what we've needed up top, so we've been working him into that center spot and he's been productive for us."

Then came a lightning delay, then another. But the Raiders were able to keep focus throughout.

"It was (tough to keep focus)," Brezenski said. "We wanted to get some guys in the game. We kind of went up and down anyways, so it was good to see us maintain focus."

The Raiders host the Northwestern JV Saturday.
