Men’s Basketball: CCC Signs GICC Star

Central Community College men's basketball is pleased to announce the signing of Grand Island Central Catholic High School senior Mayra Almayra.

Almayra was named to the All-State C1 First Team after averaging 17.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

"Mayra is a great defensive player and can guard at a high level," said CCC head coach Jerry Drymon. "He has worked hard and has really developed some offensive skills. We identified Mayra early and were fortunate to sign him before coaches were able to see how good he really is. I am excited to watch his continued growth as a Raider."

Almarya helped lead the Crusaders to a 20-7 record and an appearance in the C1 state tournament.

"Mayra has really improved as a basketball player which resulted in an outstanding senior season," said GICC head coach Tino Martinez. "I look forward to seeing him continue his basketball career at the next level."

Almayra also participates in track and field at GICC. As a junior, he received a medal in the long jump at the state meet.
