Men’s Basketball: CCC Overpowers York JV

The Central Community College men's basketball team sported strong defense and offense in a 104-79 win over York JV on Tuesday night.

Defensively, the Raiders forced 22 turnovers and outrebounded the Panthers, 50-32. The York JV offense was held to 36 percent (23-64) field goal shooting and 64 percent (23-36) free throw shooting.

Offensively, CCC shot 58 percent (39-67) from the floor and sported four players that posted double-digit scoring. Jaxon Simons logged a double-double with 24 points and a dozen rebounds. Malik Mooving scored 23 points, while Latrell Talley finished with 16 points. Bennett Nelson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points.

While CCC head coach Jerry Drymon is pleased with the performance on both sides of the ball, he is quick to point out that playing through injuries has been difficult.

"We still have a few things to improve upon, but we took a step in the right direction," said Drymon. "We had a little better ball movement which lead to some quality shots.  When we were engaged on defense we were pretty good."

The win gives the Raiders a 6-7 record heading into the Holiday Classic at Southeast Community College on Friday and Saturday. On opening night, CCC will meet Highland Community College out of Kansas, which is 9-4. Tip-off between the Raiders and the Scotties is set for 4 p.m.

On Saturday, CCC will take on Fort Scott Community College, also out of Kansas. The Greyhounds are 8-5 following a Tuesday night win over Washburn University JV, 89-51. CCC and Fort Scott will tip it off at 2 p.m.
