Logan Fleming: Double the Fun

Logan Fleming is quite a busy man. In addition to being an ag business major, he also plays not one, but two sports for the Raiders. In the fall and spring, Fleming plays on the CCC golf team, while during the winter months, he plays guard on the basketball team.

"It definitely keeps me busy, but I love doing it," said Fleming. "Playing sports is just a passion of mine, a hobby."

Among his highlights in golf this past fall season, Fleming tied for third at the York triangle and the finished in second place in the season-closing meet against Doane JV. Fleming believes his golf game has improved.

"Over the summer, I never got the chance to play every day," said Fleming. "Playing every day (during fall) and working on my game, I think it progressed really far."

In basketball, Fleming is currently averaging 16.3 points per game and 2.9 assists per game for the Raiders. He scored a season-high 33 points in CCC's 103-86 loss to Brown Mackie on Dec. 15. While the Raiders have been consistent on offense, Fleming believes the team needs to improve defensively, particularly in rebounding.

Indeed, Fleming is doing some good things for CCC and having a great experience, but a few years back it was a different story. After graduating from High Plains Community High School in Polk, Fleming enrolled at Concordia University, where he played basketball for the Bulldogs. However, he was not happy there. Eventually, Fleming spoke to CCC head basketball coach Jerry Drymon, who sold him on his style of play and he transferred. However, he took a year off as a redshirt and focused on improving his basketball skills.

"Playing at Concordia, going from the high school level to the college level was a big difference," said Fleming. "It showed me what I needed to work on and what I didn't need to work on. I think it really helped my game to just sit out a year and practice."

As for what's ahead for Fleming, he's not committing to anything right now.

"My options are open to play golf or basketball," said Fleming. "It just depends on how the seasons go, but I will definitely keep it going."
