Softball and Volleyball Coaches Named

The Central Community College athletics department is pleased to announce the appointment of Caitlin Fehringer (pictured left) as softball coach and Abby Pollart (pictured right) as volleyball coach.

Fehringer takes the reigns from Jack Gutierrez, who announced his retirement last week after 39 years with the CCC athletic department. Pollart replaces Mary Young, who was named interim athletic director succeeding Gutierrez.

Fehringer's appointment marks a return to CCC, where she had an outstanding career on the softball team from 2012 to 2014. Both years, she was named All-NCCAC, All-Region IX, All-Region IX All-Tournament, Academic All-NCCAC and Academic All-Region IX. Fehringer also played on the Raider basketball team. After graduating with an associate of arts degree, she continued her collegiate softball career at Wayne State College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2016.

During the 2016-17 academic year, Fehringer served as an assistant coach for CCC softball and basketball before returning to Wayne State to pursue a master's degree in organizational management. She served as a graduate assistant in the department of health, human performance and sport and as an assistant softball coach at Wayne High School, where she helped lead the Blue Devils to a state title in 2018.

"From the time I stepped on campus back in 2012, I've always considered Columbus and CCC my second home, and becoming only the second coach to run this program is truly an honor," said Fehringer. "I've had the pleasure to learn from Jack, both as a student-athlete and assistant coach, which will be valuable for the future of this program. Most importantly I am beyond grateful to become a mentor and role model for future student-athletes at CCC."

Pollart brings a wealth of volleyball coaching experience from multiple institutions, including a stint as the interim head coach at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for part of the 2016-17 season. Since then, she has served as an assistant volleyball coach at Concordia University in Seward and at the University of Mary in North Dakota.

A product of community college, Pollart earned an associate of science degree from Northeastern Junior College in Colorado before earning a bachelor's degree in social science-psychology from St. Gregory's University in Oklahoma. In 2015, she graduated with a master's degree in physical education and coaching from the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

"I am very honored to be appointed as head volleyball coach for Central Community College," said Pollart. "The community college system holds a special place in my heart and I'm excited to build upon the incredible program Mary Young has built over the last 24 years. I couldn't help but feel at home on the CCC campus and in the Columbus community. I look forward to getting to know the team, building relationships and helping them become better people as they grow during their two years at CCC."

Both Fehringer and Pollart will begin their service at CCC on June 1.
