CCC Athletics Hall of Famer Remembered

Jim McMahon, who was inducted into the Central Community College Athletics Hall of Fame in September, passed away on December 13. Funeral services were held on Monday in Fremont.

McMahon was the track and cross country coach at Platte College (now CCC-Columbus) from 1973 to 1977. He led the 1974 cross country team to the NJCAA national championships. Even though the team was dropped as a varsity sport, it continued as a club sport and McMahon continued to serve as head coach. Two years ago, the 1974 cross country team was inducted into the CCC Athletics Hall of Fame.

In 1978, McMahon became an assistant professor in the physical education department at Midland University and also served as Midland's head cross country and track coach. He retired in 2013, but remained at Midland as a volunteer coach.

Central Community College sends its sincere condolences to the McMahon family.
