COLUMBUS — Central Community College standout Payton Chohon will continue her volleyball career at Rockhurst University.

Chohon, a 2014 graduate of Scotus Central Catholic, committed Wednesday to the Kansas City, Missouri, school, where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

The all-conference, all-state tournament and all-class player at Scotus also racked up plenty of honors for the Raiders, who reached the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Volleyball Championship in each of her two seasons at CCC.

Chohon led Central to back-to-back Region IX titles and leaves as the school's all-time leader with 1,034 career kills.

The 5-foot-10 middle hitter had a team-high 602 kills, 122 blocks and 45 aces last season and became just the third American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American selection in Central history after receiving second-team honors among two-year colleges. She also made the NJCAA Division II All-American team.

Chohon will join a Rockhurst team that captured its first NCAA volleyball regional championship in 2015 and finished with a 34-4 record.

The Division II Hawks reached the national quarterfinals before falling to Western Washington University.
